 Expedition Circle/Council
Leadership Positions

Navigator Leader of Circle or Expedition

Old Chief Position. The Navigator oversees all Expedition or Circle activities, and organizes and runs Base Camp/Circle Meetings. The Expedition Navigator leads Campfires, Induction and Graduation Ceremonies. The Navigator should be treated with the greatest level of respect at all times, even behind his back.

Compass Bearer

Assistant Leader of Circle or Expedition

Old Sachem Position. The Expedition Compass Bearer organizes & leads Chapel at Expedition events and provides opening and closing prayers at campfires and Expedition or Circle events. The Expedition Compass Bearer will provide leadership for the Expedition in the YMCA’s annual support campaign. The Expedition/Circle Compass Bearer will fill in for the Navigator at meetings in the Navigators absence.

Treasure Keeper

Maintains Program Funds and Properties

Old Wampum Bearer position. The Expedition Treasure Keeper oversees all Expedition finances, makes monthly reports at the Base Camp, collects event money from all Circles and coordinates with YMCA on Expedition expenses. The Circle Treasure Keeper is responsible for obtaining Circle headcounts and collect all money for Expedition and Circle events. Each Circle must have a Circle Treasure Keeper.

Log Keeper

Communications

Old Tally Keeper position. The Expedition Log Keeper takes Base Camp minutes, distributes minutes taken by email to all Expedition Council Members and Circle Navigators, performs roll call at all Expedition events and maintains the “Circle of the Year” spreadsheet.

Recruitment

The Expedition Scout leads Expedition recruitment efforts and will assist with the leadership of starting a new Circle. The Circle Scout will assist their Circle with recruitment.

Historian

Takes Pictures/Keeps Notes

The Expedition Historian creates, maintains and updates the Expedition Website, maintains and updates the Expedition Logbook, and works with YMCA to write an article for the Y’s newsletter. The Circle Historian will create, maintain and update the Circle Logbook. The Circle Historian will take digital photos of their Circle at all Expedition events and forward a few of the best photos to the Expedition Historian for inclusion on the Expedition Website.

Wizard

Runs Adventure Patch Program

Old Feather Keeper position. The Expedition Wizard will run the Adventurer Expedition Journey, a.k.a. The Compass Program. He will distribute the Compass Patches to Princesses completing the phases of the program during Chapel at all overnight events. The Circle Wizard will organize and maintain the Compass Program during Circle meetings and events.

Dream Catcher

Maintains and manages the Shining Spirit website.

Patch Keeper

Old Bead Keeper position. The Expedition Patch Keeper will coordinate the design, purchase and disbursement of Expedition patches. The Circle Patch Keeper will distribute the patches to the Circle members.

Fire Starter

The Expedition Fire Starter is in charge of setting up and lighting the campfire during Expedition events and ensures that first aid is available.

Campfire Director

The Expedition Campfire Director provides behind the scenes set up and assistance during the Expedition Campfires & Chapels. Assistance will include storing and setting up the audio system and exterior lights and assisting with music and the smooth flow of the skits and campfire.
